We give world-class artists total creative freedom to imagine without limits. Operating outside present-day technical or budgetary constraints, they propose radical hypotheses and create original artworks that define the environments, narratives, and human rituals of our life beyond Earth.

Asteroids in Sight

The artist

Asteroids connect humanity's past, present and future. They are relics of the early Solar System, objects of scientific exploration today and potential sources of materials for future space development. How we picture them now shapes what we will do with them later.

Rostan Tavasiev has worked for more than 25 years across painting, objects, large-scale installations and art-science projects. His works are held in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. They have been shown at FIAC, ARCO, Art Central, KIAF and BIENALSUR. His connection to the region goes back to 2007 and the inaugural Gulf Art Fair in Dubai. Since 2020 he has been developing a body of work that treats outer space as a new territory for contemporary art.

Asteroid Gaze by Rostan Tavasiev

In collaboration with space scientists, Tavasiev developed the idea into an engineered prototype mission. It has since expanded into paintings, objects and video works shown at art fairs in Moscow and Seoul.

Turning a stone into an art object is one of humanity's oldest creative gestures. Tavasiev takes it into deep space: eye-shaped modules turn asteroids of the Main Belt into artworks that are also observatories. Together they would make the Belt the largest sculpture park in the Solar System and let us study it from within.

The first ABE projects are taking shape now, with different ways to enter — from the earliest idea to research, commissioning, exhibition and screen.

ABE projects naturally cross art, science, technology and society, giving them unusual editorial and narrative range. A story can begin as coverage and grow into a podcast, publication, documentary, series or film.

Artists with an established practice can take their work into territory they have never explored before. ABE creates the conditions for that move to grow into something substantial — through access to specialist knowledge, production and institutional support.

When a project intersects with their field, researchers can contribute in different ways — from a single expert input to an extended research collaboration. ABE gives researchers a chance to see what their work means when it becomes part of a larger human scenario — across technology, society, behaviour and culture.

ABE gives space institutions a cultural platform that can support long-term strategic goals, not just individual launches. By placing missions, research and future programmes in the public imagination, it creates sustained relevance between major milestones and adds a new dimension to how an institution is seen and understood.

ABE offers museums and cultural institutions a structured, interdisciplinary way to engage with space through contemporary art. Each project brings artistic practice together with scientific and technological inquiry, creating original commissions and programmes that can speak to audiences across disciplines.

Space will eventually reshape industries far beyond aerospace. ABE gives companies a chance to be among the first to formulate what their own field could become beyond Earth — from fashion and food to finance, hospitality and entertainment — and to help shape how that future is first imagined.
